Sky Sports received record visitors on the 1st September smashing their previous record on one single day by half a million unique. The site received 1.7 million unique in total on the day in question.
An interesting transfer deadline day led to this surge in visitors for Sky Sports who over the past year have stepped up their Search Engine Optimisation efforts.
Since news broke of the Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment buying out Man City’s troubled owner Thaksin Shinawatra searches for man city have gone through the roof.
The signing of Brazilian Robinho would certainly have also helped this search terms cause.
Sky Sports presence in search engines are certainly on the increase; I have noticed this just from general internet usage in the search for sports news as more and more search queries made returns skysports on the front page.
Still they may have smashed their daily unique visitors record but they are a long way away from the BBC.
